The Gulit Project is a research and development initiative focusing on urban resilience through food preservation strategies in the markets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Working side-by-side with local citizens, market vendors and sustainability organizations, our goal is implement new methods in clay based construction to showcase the importance in food security and to help reduce food waste across the city.

Day 3 On-site Construction in Agoza Market

 

The team, including members from Tena Kebena, as well as vendors from the market, worked throughout the day on the construction of the pop-up pavilion as well as develop the clay prototypes.

In the evening, Nicholas and Melat visited the Ethiopian Institute for Architecture Building Construction (EiABC) to present a lecture.

Day 4 On-site Construction in Agoza Market

 

The team, including members from Tena Kebena, as well as vendors from the market finished the pavilion by stretching coloured fabrics throughout the structure as well constructing a series of benches that would allow visitors to socialize within the space.

It was an intense final day of prototyping and construction with the weather changing every hour between sun and rain making it a fun day for all running in/out from covered spaces.
