Interviews in Rwanda & Agoza Markets

The team has split into two groups, the first focusing on the Rwanda Market in the Bole district and the second working closely with vendors in Agoza Market in Kazanchis district.

Rwanda Market:

Focusing on the mobile vendors that sell in Rwanda, the team spent the morning interviewing vendors learning more about their carts, their daily schedules and which produce they sell.

The team continued by visiting Merkato to locate a wheelbarrow and materials to begin prototyping a cart that may improve on the existing mobile carts used by street vendors.

Agoza Market:

The team visited the market and with the support from Tena Kebena, the group interviewed a series of vendors learning more about the different produce sold, what other programs exist (community gardens, recycling) as well as services that exists within the market (metal and welding shop, sheet metal work, and woodworking)

At the end of the day, the team began brainstorming the idea of creating a pop-up style market within the wide walkway of the market. Here the team would be able to showcase, in a public area, different food preservation techniques such as clay cooling, drying and canning.
